Erosion Control, Land Reclamation & Drainage Works

Soil erosion, land degradation, and inadequate drainage infrastructure are among the most severe environmental and infrastructural challenges facing communities in Nigeria's North-East region. Years of conflict, population displacement, and neglect of drainage systems have compounded naturally occurring erosion problems in Borno, Yobe, and the northern parts of Adamawa State, threatening residential communities, farmlands, roads, and public infrastructure. Blue Sea Services Limited was awarded this large-scale contract by the Chad Basin Development Authority (CBDA) to carry out comprehensive erosion control, land reclamation, and drainage works across this wide geographic area, with a specific focus on the erosion-ravaged Lagos Street area of Maiduguri. The project scope encompasses geotechnical investigations and topographical surveys to map erosion gullies, degraded lands, and blocked drainage channels; the construction of reinforced concrete channel linings, erosion protection walls, and gabion structures to check and contain active erosion; the installation of drainage culverts, catch-pits, and outfall structures to direct surface water safely away from vulnerable areas; land reclamation works including the filling of eroded gullies with compacted laterite and gravel materials; vegetation establishment on reclaimed lands to provide permanent soil cover and prevent re-erosion; and the rehabilitation of blocked or collapsed urban drainage channels in Maiduguri to restore effective stormwater management. Blue Sea Services Limited has deployed heavy earth-moving equipment, concrete production facilities, and a large site team to execute this multi-location, multi-disciplinary project. This intervention is critical to protecting lives, homes, farmlands, and public infrastructure from the devastating effects of erosion and flooding, and represents one of the most impactful environmental infrastructure projects in Blue Sea Services Limited's portfolio.
